A lot of controversy has sprung up over the elections in Iran and it’s another topic that may divide Iranian Americans which makes it perfect for a radio show as we unite the different segments to present all sides of the issue and leave the decision in your hands. We’re planning on hosting guests who are either careless, boycott’ers, or supporters of different candidates. We’re also happy to have Omid Memarian on our program for the first time. Please vote on our new poll on Iranican.com what you’re doing with regards to the election so we know the composition of our audience, and if there are specific questions you have in mind for our candidates, or if you want to challenge us on why we’re doing this topic, write them below and we’ll try to get to them during the show. 1. Wow… the Ahmadinejad vs. Mousavi debate was jaw dropping, specially the last few segments. It didn’t seem like they were holding anything back. I’m interested to see what you guys will say about the debate.

  2. 1. i expect karoubi to drop out, before the karoubi-mousavi debate or after the karoubi-ahmadinejad debate—-whichever comes first.

    2. if they did demographic polling in iran, i wouldn’t be surprised to see a significant drop in ahmadinejad’s woman-voter percentage in the wake of the stunt he pulled with mousavi’s wife in the debate.

    3. rezai will probably eat away at ahmadinejad’s electorate, albeit slightly.

    4. if everything goes right (and mousavi takes 50% of the vote on the 12th), we may see an automatic victory without the need for a run-off.

4a. if there is a run-off, and ahmadinejad wins, i expect student protests on the scale of 18th of Tir. perhaps even with calls from mousavi, et. al., for an investigation into the results.

    5. there will likely be something politically-related after the world cup qualifying match against DPRK on saturday. if iran wins, ahmadinejad may try to claim credit after he publicly called for (and got his wish in) the firing of the former head coach. student groups may couple their celebrations with peaceful pro-mousavi rallies.
