They Said What?! Rumors, rumors, rumors…

Did you hear?!  Justin Bieber is going to have a BABY!!  …. Miley Cyrus is on… DRUGS?!

Aaahh rumors… For most of us, the rumor mill plays a significant role in our lives- whether we give in to the temptation of picking up that US Weekly magazine at the grocery store checkout line… or listen to the “he said, she said” nonsense that SO many of us fall victim to within our Iranian communities.

In many ways, rumors are a form of entertainment.  Who doesn’t love to hear about the latest scandal in their circle of friends or the latest gossip surrounding the new married couple that just moved into town?  But there are times where rumors can have a negative effect on someone’s life.  I remember one specific time:

One of the Iranian families my parents were friends with had just gotten divorce.  The divorce came as shock to EVERYONE and there was a lot of speculation as to the reasons why the couple had separated (even though, it was amicable and it was merely because they were no longer happy together anymore).  People thought that maybe the dad hit their kid and the mom was going to take the kid away, OR that the mom had an affair… ANYWAY, everyone suspected the worst possible outcome and no one would simply accept the fact that these two people just no longer loved each other.  The outcome?  The couple was so humiliated by the gossip surrounding their separation that they ended up moving to a different city to escape it all and start fresh.  Something that had ended on friendly terms ended up developing into something painful all because of RUMORS.

Has your life ever been affected in a negative or positive way by a rumor that was started about YOU?  How were you able to cope with the negativity that surrounded the embarrassing gossip?  Join our co-hosts TONIGHT as they discuss the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to RUMORS.

    1. SmartAss, at least you picked an appropriate name… Are you talking about the STD in Iran issue, or Rumors? If it’s about STDs in Iran, then it’s relevant because we can create communication/campaign to raise awareness in Iran because believe it or not Iranians in Iran try so hard to be American, from celebrating Halloween to listening to Lady Gaga and everything in between, so why not publicize something “American” that can help many people’s physical health and well being??

  3. I was just listing a couple of podcasts from 2008. Guys, You have improved it a lot. Great job. Involve more people in your show and please do not make too long discussions between two people especially between the ladies. Although, Shahed and Elnaz are so cute and I like them a lot , some people would not be happy listening to them disagree on sth for a long time:)
